Enabling trace mode (game can start)

When troubleshooting a support issue, OOTP Developments may ask you to enable "Trace Mode." Trace Mode is a special mode that causes OOTP to log additional data that may be helpful in troubleshooting your problem.

The easiest way to launch the game in Trace Mode on Windows machine is to use a special shortcut that comes with the game. Go to Start | All Programs | Out of the Park Developments | Out of the Park Baseball (version) | Tools | Start OOTP with tracemode.

If you have a Macintosh or Linux machine, or if the above doesn't work, to enable Trace Mode, use the following steps:

If OOTP can launch and get to the start screen, use the steps below to enable Trace Mode (otherwise, go here):

  1. Open the game and click on Settings (or Preferences in older versions).
  2. Now click on the Troubleshooting tab.
  3. Finally, click the drop-down menu that says "Don't write OOTP debug info to file".
  4. Change it so that it will "write OOTP debug info into file".
  5. Click OK and then exit the game.

Generating a Trace File

Once Trace Mode has been enabled, follow these steps to generate a trace file:

  1. Launch OOTP. You may receive a pop-up saying that Trace Mode is enabled, and that performance may be slower than normal.
  2. Perform whatever steps are required to cause your problem to occur (or perform whatever steps OOTP Developments has suggested).
  3. Quit OOTP (if it hasn't crashed). [If it didn't crash, then the log won't be helpful for troubleshooting crash problems (but may be helpful for other problems). In that case, there's no need to send us the trace log if you're troubleshooting a crash problem.]
  4. Open the game and click on Settings (or Preferences in older versions).
  5. Now click on the Troubleshooting tab.
  6. Open the folder called "debug".
  7. Finally, find the file called "ootp_trace.txt" and submit a support ticket and attach the file to your ticket.
  8. To disable Trace Mode, simply reverse the steps above. It's important to disable this since the game will run slower with trace mode enabled.
